American English intonation greatly contributes to your ability to express yourself in English. The intonation (voice and pitch) can help you to express emotions such as surprise, anger, confusion or excitement. Plus, it can also serve a grammatical function. Intonation is primarily a matter of variation in the pitch of the voice and can be referred to as, “the music of speech.”
This short course focuses on the 3 main intonation patterns of American English which are: falling intonation, rising intonation and fall-rise intonation.
